Spring Break 2009: Istanbul, Turkey!

So my Spring Break is finally here.  I have a lot of friends that are going to Italy and Spain and other cities in France, but, uh, I wanted to go somewhere exotic.  I asked around and found a group that was going to Turkey, and fearing that I wouldn’t find anyone else with similar aspirations, I latched on.  I’m leaving tomorrow and come back on Saturday evening.  There are six of us going, though I’m heading out on a flight before them and arrive seven hours earlier.

Once I land in Turkey, I have to somehow find my way to the hostel, which is near Ayasofya.  Wish me the best of luck in getting there, because I have no idea how I’ll do it.  Also, I guess we have to get a visa upon entering Turkey, which costs something like $20 and can be bought at the airport.  Our plan (for now, at least) is to stay in Istanbul for Monday and Tuesday, and then head out on Tuesday night to the south of Turkey.  We’re aiming to go to Fethiye, where we’ll spend a day, and then on Thursday morning we’re going to go to Dalyan.  Thursday night, we’ll come back to Istanbul to spend Friday and whatever we have of Saturday in Istanbul.  In all honesty, I’m kind of against going to Fethiye and Dalyan, mainly for the reason that it takes twelve hours to get there by bus.  And, uh, if there’s one thing I know about myself, it’s that I can’t sleep on buses.  When I went to Lyon, I took four Benadryl, and that did nothing for me.  But we’ll have to see what the will of the group is.

This will be the first time that I’m traveling all on my own without any real indication of what I’ll be doing.  We have a general (read: VERY GENERAL) idea of what we’re going to do, but nothing is really planned.  This really makes me nervous, because I really like to have structure in my life, so this trip might test me a little bit.  We’ll see how it goes.

Wish me luck!
